Home Schooling:
Practical Considerations

Janette's PICTURES of AUSTRALIAN HISTORY ... bringing history and learning to life!

That's what this resource is all about, sharing the fascinating story of Australian History with your children. Every child should know his or her own country's history and these pictures have been designed so that children will LOVE discovering it. Sure history has its good and bad points; but just like generations of children before them our children will be a part of Australia's history one day. What has happened in the past - history's lessons and trials, the lives of the people and the events that happened are what built together to make Australia "Australian" - and to teach us the lessons of past generations.

This resource was inspired by a desire to share Australian history with my own children. To that end over the last few years I have researched our recorded history. I have also sourced, designed and drawn over 140 black and white pictures from historical works (for authenticity) and composed rhymes and notes to succinctly tell the story of each one. There are 35 pages of reproducible black and white pictures, each one having its own story, rhyme or note. NOW ALSO AVAILABLE ON CD for view, enlarging and printing on screen.

Parents, children and educators can engage together in sharing succinctly and in a clear and enjoyable way Australia's fascinating past. In addition, through the maps provided they can understand what happened where, which places history right where we live it and brings history to life!

Janette's Pictures has an engaging and entertaining style to open children's minds and help them enjoy learning. As well they are a multi-sensory resource: as pictures they are VISUAL (sense of sight) and are HANDS ON (children use the sense of touch as they colour), and AURAL through reading aloud (the sense of hearing). This makes them an extremely effective learning tool and one which provides visual keys to help unlock children's memories.

Now Available ~ Narratives that go with the pictures!

Each one is a storyline of Australian History with
instructions and activities and questions that go
with the pictures. All 3 narratives come in a
presentation folder for a total of $14.

photo of Beverley and Robin PainePioneering members of the home education movement in Australia, Beverley and Robin Paine are passionate advocates of true educational choice for families. They began homeschooling their children in 1986 and three years later started the South Australian Home Based Learners network. Beverley wrote Getting Started with Homeschooling in 1995-97 and since then continues to write books and booklets on home education. She balances spending time helping home educators with working in her garden and renovating her home, as well as continuing to build her collection of writing on a variety of homeschooling subjects. Beverley maintains an extensive collection of websites as well as several Yahoo groups supporting families teaching their children at home. In 2007 Beverley joined the HEA and became a committee member in 2008: she also edits and produce the HEA Newsletter, HEA magazine, Stepping Stones for Home Educators, annual Resource Directory and other HEA publications.
